2025 Study Abroad/Away Opportunity & Access Scholarships (SOAR)

With funding secured by the Office of the Provost, International Academic Initiatives is pleased to announce the SOAR Scholarships. Awards will range from $2000 to $3000 for semester and summer abroad/away programs, and from $750 to $1500 for short-term faculty-led programs. These awards are available to students of any major with demonstrated financial need. To be considered, students must complete only one of the two applications below. Please do not apply for both, as they are for very different types of study abroad/away, and it is not possible to do both in Spring 2025. If you do not know the differences between (1) and (2) below, please do not apply for SOAR until you have completed Study Abroad 101 advising. Email studyabroad@montclair.edu to get scheduled for this.

The Summer 2025 SOAR application will be separate and available later. Please do not use (1) or (2) below if you are studying abroad in Summer 2025 or Fall 2025.ÌýThe committee will not review your application and you will not be notified of a decision regarding your eligibility.

For both types of SOAR applications below, students will be asked to provide short answers (150-300 words each) to the following questions:

  • Explain how your study abroad program will help advance your future academic and/or professional goals.
  • Describe how you plan to engage culturally during your study abroad experience.
  • Please share how the scholarship will help bring study abroad within your financial reach.

  • Awards ranging from $2000 to $3000
  • To be reviewed, students must complete this Study Abroad Financial Aid Budget Form , have it signed by your IAI advisor, and uploaded on our Studio Abroad portal. Your financial need review cannot be completed without this form.
